Let's Talk Combos Empty
PostSubject: Let's Talk Combos   Let's Talk Combos Icon_minitimeFri Sep 07, 2012 6:47 am

Alrighty, so now that the game is starting to become a bit more familiar to everyone, I thought I'd go ahead and make a post where we can figure out what does what in terms of combos. there is a TL;DR version at the bottom for the bare bones information. But for those who want to know how they can interact with absolutely everyone before seeing them cast anything, keep reading.

For people who haven't been introduced to it, GW2 has an awesome combo system where your abilities can mix with someone else's and create another ability, from shields, to bolts, to healing and providing boons or applying conditions. You can find out whether your abilities combine a combo field (the necessary starting ingredient, an elemental field you lay on the ground) or a finisher (blast, whirl, leap, or projectile) by mousing over the ability. Not all abilities, nor even all classes have both. Warriors, for instance, have only one combo field, but plenty of finishers. When you perform a combo finisher, a grey heart with text saying what it did will pop up. (Area might or burning, for instance)

I'm looking to add in all the actual effects made, as well as what class can each do with what weapon/skill. Add in whatever you guys have found out, as I've only had the opportunity to really take notice with a few on the warrior! I'll post the character/skill that makes each combo/finisher as I find them out or as you post them below.

This post will be a constantly growing reference, and I'm hoping to get some videos up once I upgrade the computer to handle both decent quality gaming while recording.  This is not 100% guaranteed to be correct. If you notice any errors or omissions, please let me know!

Thanks Brandon/Reeburn for changing up the color scheme better!

Mesmerrrrr!
Chaos Storm (staff #5) is an ethereal field
Feedback (util) is ethereal too I think
Null Field (util) is ... also ethereal
Time Warp (elite) is not ethereal! nah jk it is.
Then, Veil (util) and Temporal Curtain (focus #4) are Light fields
Actually that's all I think we have... Hmm
Oh and finishers uhh
Phase Retreat (staff #2) is a leap
Illusionary Leap (sword #3) is a leap
Magic Bullet (pistol #5) and Mirror Blade (great sword #2) are projectiles
And then some of the phantasms can do finishers on their own but I haven't really paid attention to who does what..

And Black Powder (thief pistol #5) is a Smoke field..
That's all I got.

It's missing a lot unfortunately, I'll refer you to Guild Wars 2 Wiki Combo page for the full list of fields and the effect of each type of finisher.

The type of field you can make is generally written in the skill description when you mouse over it, same goes for finishers I think.

There's lots of ways to finish a field e.g.:

Blast finisher, mainly done by casters, is a finisher field on top of another field.
Projectile finisher, shooting through a field with ranged skills. (if its done with a multishot skill its only 20% of the field effect)
Leap finishers, skill jumping through or into a field will trigger a leap finisher.
Whirl Finishers, doing a cyclone move in a field will trigger it.

Kay, so... I'm gonna be completely honest.

I don't pay much attention to combos. XD I am a horrible GW2 player LOL

But! I've been playing a lot with Eric lately, and because I used scepter/torch and went offensive with my utility slots, we managed to come up with two combos. Except I'm not really sure of the abilities on his end.

My ability is called Purging Flames, combo field is fire, of course. We've managed to do two combos with it... Burning Bolts, I think? Where he spins around and sends fire everywhere... and then we've also managed to do a fire bubble (fire aura, I think the proper name is). Since you are a warrior maybe you can figure them out, or you can ask him what he uses XD

I hope that was helpful :3 Probably wasn't... but I figured I'd post anyway.

I also have some combo field light abilities, but I'm not sure which ones they are because I haven't been swapping my abilities around much. Sorry : /

Alright, so after the past couple of days of going through all the skills, I think I have the full list compiled (of what class provides what fields and what weapons to look for)

I should have it up by Tuesday evening my time, as I need to spend time on the computer, not playing GW obviously, to actually edit it into the post Very Happy

I know you still have to post it and all but I just want to thank you for all your hard work, Zere! I think this was a cool little project that you've taken up and I think that it will be immensely helpful to current and future guildies alike.

Thanks for all your hard work! <3
